Is my YouTube channel shadowbanned? 9 checks that tell you in 15 minutes

Views collapse overnight, a new upload sits at 40 views, and every forum gives the same diagnosis: shadowban. YouTube's position is that there is no hidden switch that buries a channel. But there are 9 real, documented restrictions that look exactly like one from the outside, and each of them leaves a trace you can check in YouTube Studio. Here is how to find which one, if any, hit you, and why most so called shadowbans turn out to be a packaging or topic problem that shows up in your traffic sources.

Does YouTube shadowban channels? What is really happening

A shadowban, in the way creators use the word, is a secret penalty: your videos still exist, but YouTube quietly stops showing them, with no email and no notice in Studio. YouTube's position is that there is no hidden switch like that. What exists instead is a set of documented systems, each with its own rule, its own trigger and, in most cases, its own label somewhere in Studio.

From the outside they all feel the same, because the symptom is the same: fewer views than you expected. That is why the word spreads. A channel that published 4 videos in one afternoon and saw notifications stop, a video that got age restricted and a video that simply lost its test on the home page all produce the same complaint in a forum, while the cause and the fix are completely different.

So the useful question is not whether you were shadowbanned. It is which of the 9 mechanisms below touched the video, or whether none did and the video lost on packaging. Most of the time it is the second, and that is good news, because packaging can be fixed on the next upload. The wider list of reasons a channel stalls, beyond restrictions, is in why your faceless channel is not growing.

Checks 1 and 2: age restriction and copyright, read in the Restrictions column

Start where YouTube itself tells you. In Studio, open the Content page and look at the Restrictions column. It shows the limits on each video: copyright, age restriction, made for kids and ad suitability. If that column is clean on the video that flopped, you have ruled out the most common hard restrictions in about 30 seconds.

Check 1 is age restriction. An age restricted video cannot be watched by signed out viewers or by users under 18, and it cannot play in most embeds, which send the viewer to YouTube instead. It also gets limited or no ads. For a faceless channel in true crime, war history or medical topics, one age restriction cuts the reachable audience of that video hard, and it feels like a shadowban because the video is still public. You can appeal an age restriction one time, from the Restrictions column itself, so read the policy before you click, because there is no second try.

Check 2 is copyright. A copyright claim can block a video in some countries while it stays live in others, so it looks normal to you and invisible to part of your audience. Hover the restriction in the column to see where it is blocked. Ad suitability is a separate story that affects money rather than reach, and the yellow icon has its own logic, covered in what the yellow limited ads icon means.

This is also where production choices show up. In FalconVid, scenes come from curated stock in economy mode or are generated with Veo 3 with audio and Seedance Pro in premium, with music and effects added by the sound designer, so the video is built for your channel instead of on clips taken from someone else's upload.

Checks 3 to 5: borderline content, Restricted Mode and made for kids

Check 3 is the closest thing to what people imagine a shadowban to be, and it is public. In January 2019 YouTube announced that it reduces recommendations of content that comes close to violating the Community Guidelines but does not cross the line. It said this affects less than 1% of content, relies on a mix of machine learning and human evaluators, and that these videos remain findable in search. Only recommendations are affected: the home page and up next. So the signature is specific: search traffic holds, browse and suggested traffic fall, and there is no label anywhere.

Check 4 is Restricted Mode. Videos with potentially mature content are hidden from viewers who have Restricted Mode on, which is common in schools, libraries, some workplaces and family devices. Newly uploaded videos may also be unavailable in Restricted Mode for a while, until they are reviewed. The test takes 2 minutes: turn Restricted Mode on in your account menu, search for the video, then open its URL directly. If it disappears only there, you found a partial audience loss, not a ban.

Check 5 is made for kids. It can be set by you or by YouTube, and the filter on the Content page shows when it was set by YouTube. A made for kids video loses notifications, comments and personalized ads. It does not change age restriction, but losing notifications alone can make a launch look dead, the same pattern behind why subscribers do not watch your videos.

Borderline is a topic decision before it is a ranking decision. In FalconVid, the Spy and the Modeler start from formats that already monetize in your niche, so the channel begins from what YouTube is already recommending, and research comes before the script, so each video is built on sources instead of on the most shocking angle available.

Checks 6 to 9: notifications, hashtags, strikes and the search delay

Check 6 is the notification cap, and it explains a lot of panic after batch uploads. Per YouTube's help, viewers get at most 3 upload, live or premiere notifications per channel in 24 hours. If you publish more than 3 videos in a short time, YouTube may stop sending notifications for 24 hours, even if the others were opted out. Unchecking Publish to subscriptions feed and notify subscribers sends none, and switching a video to private or unlisted shortly after publishing stops them. Notifications also take 10 to 20 minutes to go out, so a quiet first 15 minutes is normal.

Check 7 is hashtags. With more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores all hashtags on the video, and it may remove the video from search as spam. Keep it to a few. Check 9, the search delay, belongs here too: search indexing and HD processing take time, so searching your exact title signed out or in incognito minutes after upload proves nothing. Check again after 24 to 48 hours before drawing any conclusion.

Check 8 is a Community Guidelines warning or strike, the one restriction that is never silent. The first violation is a one time warning, and you can take a policy training to have it removed after 90 days. After that come strikes: the first freezes uploading and live for 1 week, a second within 90 days freezes them for 2 weeks, and a third within 90 days terminates the channel. You get an email and a notice in Studio, so if you saw neither, this is not your problem. How it plays out on automation is in community guidelines strikes on automated channels.

Checks 6 and 7 are the ones FalconVid removes by design. Publishing is scheduled at your audience's hour and spaced out, so a batch of videos never trips the 3 notification cap, and video SEO writes the title, description and tags with a few hashtags, never a wall of 60.

The diagnosis that usually wins: impressions and traffic sources

If the 9 checks come back clean, open Studio, then Analytics, then Reach, and read Traffic source types for the video. The question is where the drop happened. If impressions fell and the loss sits in Browse features and Suggested videos while YouTube search holds, the video was tested on the home page and up next and lost the test. That is packaging or topic, not a ban.

Then compare fairly. Put the new video against the median of your last 10 uploads at the same age, first 24 hours and first 7 days, not against an old hit that took months to build. A video at 400 views after 24 hours on a channel whose 24 hour median is 450 is normal. A video at 90 against that same median is a real drop, and that is when impressions CTR matters. It varies by niche, but most channels sit between 2% and 10%. A video well below the channel's own usual band, with normal impressions, points at the thumbnail and the title.

This is the reading the FalconVid Senior AI Analyst does for you. It is a fixed person per client, with a name, a face and a voice, who reads the account and writes every 2 days in your language, with the next move inside the product: which topic to repeat, which packaging to change. It is included from the Pro plan up, and the Starter gets a 7 day trial of the analyst. The AI YouTube analytics assistant page explains how it reads a channel.

How FalconVid keeps a faceless channel out of the 9 traps

In FalconVid, the platform that runs channels on autopilot, most of the 9 checks are handled before the video exists. You approve the content calendar, and everything goes out on its own. The AI specialists work in parallel on each video, the researcher, the scriptwriter, the narrator, the editor and the sound designer at the same time, and a video is ready in up to 30 minutes.

The channel DNA keeps a persistent identity, so every video stays original to the channel instead of a template with the nouns swapped. The Studio lets you watch the first version and adjust it, shorten the intro, swap a piece of media, change the music, or open the timeline. And because the line produces several videos at once, up to the simultaneous generations of your plan, you can test packaging on volume instead of betting the month on one upload.

  • Spy and Modeler: start from formats that already monetize in your niche, never the file.
  • Research before the script, so topics are sourced instead of pushed toward the borderline.
  • Channel DNA: a persistent identity that keeps every video original to the channel.
  • Narration in 63 languages with ultra realistic premium voices and karaoke captions in 15+ styles.
  • Thumbnail in 4K and video SEO with title, description, tags and a few hashtags.
  • Scheduled publishing at the audience's hour, spaced so it never hits the 3 notification cap.
  • Shorts in 9:16 and publishing to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Rumble and Facebook.
  • Senior AI Analyst writing every 2 days from the Pro plan up, with a 7 day trial on the Starter.

The 15 minute shadowban checklist

Run it in this order. Each step takes 1 to 3 minutes, and the first one that fails is your answer. Use the same video every time: the one that disappointed you, compared with your own last 10 uploads.

If every line is clean and the loss is in Browse features and Suggested, stop looking for a ban. Change the packaging on the next upload, change one variable at a time, and judge it against the same median at 24 hours and at 7 days. In FalconVid each new video arrives with a fresh 4K thumbnail and a new SEO title, so every upload is a clean test instead of a repeat of the one that lost.

  • Minute 1: Content page, Restrictions column. Anything other than none is your lead.
  • Minute 2: hover age restriction or copyright to see the reason and the blocked countries.
  • Minute 3: filter made for kids and look for set by YouTube.
  • Minutes 4 to 5: turn Restricted Mode on, search the video, open its URL directly.
  • Minute 6: count uploads in the last 24 hours. More than 3 means notifications may have stopped.
  • Minute 7: count hashtags. More than 60 means all of them are ignored.
  • Minute 8: check email and Studio for a warning or strike.
  • Minute 9: if the video is under 48 hours old, wait before judging search.
  • Minutes 10 to 13: Reach, Traffic source types. Is the loss in Browse and Suggested while search holds?
  • Minutes 14 to 15: compare views and impressions CTR with the median of your last 10 uploads at the same age.

Inauthentic content: the policy that hits money, not reach

One more policy gets confused with a shadowban. On 15 July 2025 YouTube renamed the repetitious content policy of the YouTube Partner Program to inauthentic content. It targets mass produced, template videos, and it affects monetization, not reach: the channel can lose ad revenue while the videos stay up and keep their views.

Automation is not what that policy is about. Mass producing the same template is. By hand, staying clear of it means a researched script, original narration, an edit and a thumbnail for every single video, and the ceiling is how many hours you have in a week. That is where most faceless channels stop at one channel and a handful of videos a month.

In FalconVid the whole video is priced in credits, with 12 minutes as the ruler: 1,731 credits in economy, 4,597 in balanced and 16,131 in premium, and a 1 minute Short costs 583 in economy. The Starter, with 15,000 credits, 1 channel and 2 simultaneous generations, runs 8 videos in economy or 3 in balanced; an honest mix is 2 balanced and 3 economy, 14,387 of 15,000. The Pro, with 30,000 credits, 5 channels and 5 at once, runs 17 in economy, 6 in balanced or 1 in premium, and adds the dedicated server and the Senior AI Analyst. Business runs 54, 20 or 5 with 10 channels, Agency 109, 41 or 11 with 25, and Scale 184, 69 or 19 with 50.

So there are two ceilings. By hand, one channel and whatever your week allows. On the line, videos are produced at the same time, each with research, an original script and the channel's DNA, and published on schedule: multiple channels on autopilot, in as many channels as you want.

FAQ

Got questions? We've got answers.

Does YouTube shadowban channels?

YouTube's position is that there is no hidden switch that buries a channel. What exists are documented restrictions, such as age restriction, copyright blocks by country, reduced recommendations for borderline content, Restricted Mode, made for kids and the notification cap, and most of them show up in Studio.

How do I know if my video is age restricted?

Open the Content page in Studio and read the Restrictions column. An age restricted video cannot be watched signed out or by users under 18, does not play in most embeds and gets limited or no ads. You can appeal it one time from that same column.

Why did my subscribers not get notified about my new video?

Viewers get at most 3 upload notifications per channel in 24 hours, and publishing more than 3 videos in a short time may stop notifications for 24 hours. Unchecking the notify option, switching to private or unlisted soon after publishing, or a made for kids setting also stop them.

How long until a new video shows up in YouTube search?

Search indexing and HD processing take time, so searching your exact title minutes after upload proves nothing. Check after 24 to 48 hours, signed out or in incognito, before concluding anything is wrong.

Will an automated channel get shadowbanned?

Automation is not the problem. Mass produced template content is, and the inauthentic content policy hits monetization. In FalconVid every video is researched before the script, written from scratch and kept original to the channel by its DNA, and publishing is spaced so it never trips the notification cap.

Do I need to read YouTube analytics myself?

Not with FalconVid from the Pro plan up. The Senior AI Analyst, a fixed person per client with a name, face and voice, reads the account and writes every 2 days in your language with the next move inside the product. The Starter gets a 7 day trial of the analyst.

Can I try FalconVid for free?

Yes. The free plan gives 4 videos of up to 3 minutes every 30 days, with no card, so you can see the production quality before choosing a paid plan. Paid plans come with a 7 day guarantee.

Stop guessing about the ban. Publish the next video right.
