What Lumen5 is, and what it does well
Lumen5 is a browser video maker built for marketers and business content teams. Its own pricing page describes it as a way to turn blog posts, scripts and ideas into studio quality video, designed for business use. You paste a link to an article, a script or a document, the AI reads it, splits it into short scenes with on screen text, picks stock media and builds a first cut. Then you open a drag and drop editor to swap clips, adjust the text, apply the brand kit and export.
For that job it is good. A marketing team with a blog of 200 articles can turn each post into a 1 to 3 minute clip for LinkedIn, Instagram or the company page in well under an hour, with the logo, fonts and colors locked in. This Lumen5 review starts there because it is true, and because everything that follows is measured against it.
Pictory sells almost the same promise, article in and video out, and our Pictory AI review for faceless channels runs its numbers. The question here is narrower: can Lumen5 run a faceless news channel on YouTube, one that turns fresh stories into long narrated videos every day, without someone pasting links all afternoon?
What each Lumen5 plan gives in October 2026
The numbers below come from the official pricing page at lumen5.com/pricing in October 2026. Prices change, so confirm them at checkout before paying.
The Free plan costs US$ 0 and gives 5 videos a month, each up to 2 minutes, in 720p, with a Lumen5 branded outro on every video and 24 minutes of AI voiceover per year.
Basic costs US$ 29 a month on monthly billing or US$ 19 a month billed yearly. It gives unlimited videos with no Lumen5 branding, 720p, videos up to 10 minutes, 240 AI voice minutes per year, 12 animation minutes per year, 1 voice clone and 12 translations per year, for a single user.
Starter costs US$ 79 monthly or US$ 59 a month billed yearly. It moves to 1080p, keeps the 10 minute maximum, and gives 720 AI voice minutes per year, 24 animation minutes per year, 1 voice clone and the Shutterstock library, still for a single user.
Pro costs US$ 199 monthly or US$ 149 a month billed yearly. It gives 1080p, the same 10 minute maximum, 2,160 AI voice minutes per year, 60 animation minutes per year, 3 voice clones, 60 translations per year, 3 workspaces and 300 Shutterstock editorial assets per year, for a single user. Team is custom priced and adds multiple users, an approval workflow and SSO.
Two details decide everything for a news channel. The AI voice is counted per year, not per month. And no plan goes past 10 minutes per video. The pricing page also does not mention RSS feeds, scheduled automation or publishing to YouTube.
AI voice minutes are yearly: the math for a narrated channel
Divide the yearly allowance by 12 and the picture changes. Basic gives 240 minutes a year, 20 minutes a month: less than two narrations of 12 minutes. Starter gives 720 a year, 60 a month: 5 narrations of 12 minutes. Pro gives 2,160 a year, 180 a month: 15 narrations of 12 minutes.
A daily news channel publishes about 30 long videos a month. At 12 minutes each, that is 360 minutes of narration a month and 4,320 a year, twice the allowance of Pro, the largest self serve plan. On monthly Pro, each narrated 12 minute video works out to about US$ 13 of plan, and on monthly Starter about US$ 16, before anyone picks a story or checks a fact.
For a brand that posts a handful of short clips a month, those minutes are plenty: a 90 second clip uses 1.5 minutes of voice. The allowance was sized for social clips, not for long narration.
On FalconVid the narration is part of the video, with no separate meter for voice minutes. A 12 minute video costs 1,731 credits in economy and 4,597 in balanced, with research, script, voice, scenes, captions, thumbnail and SEO included. The Starter runs about 8 of those videos in economy or 3 in balanced, the Pro about 17 or 6, and the Business about 54 or 20, which covers a 12 minute video every day in economy with room to spare.

The 10 minute ceiling and the 12 minute news video
Every paid Lumen5 plan caps a video at 10 minutes, and the free plan at 2. A 12 minute news roundup is impossible on any plan. The only routes are splitting it into two videos or cutting the number of stories.
Length is money on YouTube. Mid-roll ads, the ones placed in the middle of the video, only run on videos of 8 minutes or more, so 10 minutes clears the line with little room for several breaks. And from February 1, 2027, new channels joining the Partner Program need 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 public watch hours in 365 days, up from 4,000. 8,000 hours are 480,000 minutes. At 40% retention, a 2 minute video gives 0.8 minutes per view: 600,000 views. A 10 minute video gives 4 minutes: 120,000 views. A 12 minute video gives 4.8 minutes: 100,000 views.
The jump from 2 to 10 minutes is the one that matters most, and the free plan cannot make it. The jump from 10 to 12 saves another 20,000 views on the same goal, on every cycle, and it is the jump no Lumen5 plan allows.
FalconVid treats the 12 minute video as the standard unit on the paid plans, in 16:9, with Shorts in 9:16 made alongside to pull new viewers into the long version. The free plan is for checking the quality: 4 videos of up to 3 minutes every 30 days, no card, to generate and download.
News is a race, and nothing watches the feed
Lumen5 starts from a link you paste. A news channel starts from what happened in the last few hours. Someone has to open the sources, choose the stories, paste each one, review the cut, fix the scenes, export, upload, write the title and description, and schedule. At 30 to 60 minutes per video, our estimate for that manual loop, a daily channel costs 15 to 30 hours a month, and the story gets older at every step.
That gap is what turning news into videos automatically closes. Instead of you watching the sources, the sources come to the pipeline through RSS, the feed of new articles that almost every news site publishes.
On FalconVid you connect the RSS feeds of your niche and the pipeline picks the stories. AI specialists then work in parallel on the same video: the researcher checks the story, the scriptwriter writes for retention, the narrator voices it, the editor cuts the scenes and the sound designer mixes music and effects. The video is ready in up to 30 minutes and goes out on schedule to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Rumble and Facebook.
How many sources you need depends on the niche and the posting rhythm, and we did that math in how many RSS feeds a daily channel needs.
What FalconVid does for a faceless news channel
FalconVid runs faceless channels on autopilot: you approve a calendar of topics, or connect the feeds of your niche, and the rest goes out on its own, from research to scheduled publishing on 5 networks.
The Studio is there when you want to watch version 1 and shorten the intro, swap a scene, change the music or open the timeline. Every paid plan has the full platform, and no creation feature is locked by plan. What changes is volume, channels, simultaneous generations, the dedicated server from Pro up, the Senior AI Analyst and support.
- RSS feeds of the niche turned into 12 minute videos, with research, original script, narration, scenes and music.
- AI specialists working in parallel, video ready in up to 30 minutes, 2 simultaneous generations on the Starter and up to 50 on the Scale.
- Ultra realistic premium voices or your cloned voice in 63 languages, with no yearly cap on voice minutes.
- Duplicate a project into another language paying only the difference.
- Karaoke captions in 15+ styles, Shorts in 9:16, 4K, thumbnail and video SEO with title, description and tags.
- Scheduled publishing to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Rumble and Facebook.
- Senior AI Analyst from Pro up, with a 7 day trial on the Starter: a fixed person with a name, a face and a voice who reads your account every 2 days and writes the next move.
Stock footage, originality and the news niches that work
Lumen5 builds its scenes from stock libraries, and from Starter up from the Shutterstock library. Pro adds 300 Shutterstock editorial assets a year, less than one a day for a daily news channel. Stock footage that thousands of channels also use, laid out by a template, is the pattern YouTube looks at: its July 2025 revision of the inauthentic content policy targets mass produced and repetitive videos, and the reused content rule still asks for meaningful original value.
The value in a news channel is the angle: what happened, why it matters and what comes next, told in a voice that stays the same across 300 videos. Celebrity news lives on speed and story, as we showed in a faceless celebrity news channel.
Local news lives on proximity: a city or region that national channels ignore, fed by a handful of local sources. The full setup is in a local news channel built on RSS.
FalconVid writes an original script for each story, with a hook in the first 30 seconds. The economy mode assembles the scenes with stock and web footage cut to that original script and narration. The balanced and premium modes generate each scene for the script, up to Veo 3 with audio and Seedance Pro in premium. The channel DNA keeps voice, style, rhythm and language the same across every video, so the channel has an identity of its own.
Lumen5 vs FalconVid in volume, and when each one fits
Side by side, per month: Lumen5 Pro gives 180 minutes of AI voice, 18 videos at the 10 minute ceiling, with choosing stories, pasting links, review and upload still done by hand. On FalconVid, the Starter, with 15,000 credits, 1 channel and 2 simultaneous generations, runs about 8 videos of 12 minutes in economy or 3 in balanced, or 25 Shorts. Premium of 12 minutes does not fit there, and an honest mix is 2 balanced plus 3 economy, 14,387 of 15,000 credits. The Pro, with 30,000 credits, 5 channels and 5 at once, runs 17, 6 or 1 in premium. The Business, with 95,000 credits, runs 54, 20 or 5 across 10 channels. The cost per video is the same on every plan.
Lumen5 is worth it for a marketing team that turns its own blog posts into 1 to 3 minute social clips with a brand kit. There the yearly voice minutes are enough, the 10 minute cap never bites and the editor is quick to learn.
It stops fitting when the goal is a daily news channel with 12 minute videos. The ceiling is not the quality of the editor. It is that every video starts from a link someone pastes, the voice is rationed per year and the length stops at 10 minutes. That ceiling belongs to the manual route. The automated route removes it: feeds in, long videos out, Shorts alongside, publishing on schedule and the same line running several news channels at once, in as many channels as you want.
