Synthesia Review 2026: Why 1,250 Credits Make One 12 Minute AI Avatar Video a Month

Synthesia makes one of the most polished AI avatars on the market, a presenter who reads your script in more than 140 languages and voices. It prices that presenter by the minute: about 100 credits per finished minute, so the 1,250 credits of the Starter month cover one 12 minute video. Here is the Synthesia pricing read on 26 October 2026, what doubles the bill, what each plan buys a YouTube channel, and the Synthesia alternative that puts the face on screen only where it counts and delivers the finished video.

What Synthesia sells: a presenter reading your script

Synthesia is an AI avatar studio. You paste a script, pick a stock presenter or create one of your own, choose a voice, and the platform returns a video of that AI avatar speaking your words with matching lip movement, in more than 140 languages and voices. As a way to turn text into a person talking on screen, it is one of the most finished products you can buy in 2026.

The product looks built for companies. Everything on the page points to training modules, onboarding, internal updates and corporate explainers: short videos where a presenter talks from the first second to the last, and where the alternative is renting a studio and a crew. That is the apparent positioning, and for that job the price makes sense. Our comparison of HeyGen and Synthesia for a channel shows how both studios behave once the goal changes.

This Synthesia review asks a narrower question: what does the subscription buy a YouTube channel that needs a 12 minute video every few days? Every price, credit and rule below comes from synthesia.io/pricing, read on 26 October 2026. Prices change, so confirm them at checkout before you pay.

Synthesia pricing on 26 October 2026

Synthesia sells three self-serve plans and one sales-led plan. Monthly billing has a cheaper first month, and annual billing lowers the monthly price but delivers the whole year of credits at once.

Two answers a channel needs are not on the page: whether the plans include commercial use of the videos, and the maximum length of a single video. We did not find either one on 26 October 2026, so read the terms and ask support before you build a monetized channel on it.

  • Basic: $0 a month, 500 credits a month and a 10 minute free allowance, 9 stock avatars, Synthesia watermark and no download. Download and logo removal start on Starter.
  • Starter: $19 a month on monthly billing ($9 for the first month) with 1,250 credits a month, up to about 12 minutes of video. Annual: $14 a month, $168 a year, 15,000 credits a year, up to about 150 minutes. More than 125 stock avatars.
  • Pro: $89 a month on monthly billing ($49 for the first month) with 6,000 credits a month, up to about 60 minutes. Annual: $59 a month, $708 a year, 72,000 credits a year, about 720 minutes. More than 180 stock avatars and 5 personal avatars.
  • Pro monthly extra tiers: 12,000 credits for $176, 24,000 for $347, 36,000 for $514 and 48,000 for $676 a month.
  • Enterprise: price on request, more than 240 avatars.

100 credits per minute, and what doubles it

The base rate is simple: about 100 credits per minute of finished video. That is why 1,250 credits read as up to about 12 minutes and 6,000 as up to about 60. The rest of the rate card is where a channel budget moves.

Lip sync features use 2 times the credits. Dubbing an existing video costs 80 credits per minute with lip sync and 40 without, so a 12 minute video dubbed into one more language costs 960 or 480 credits extra. A channel in several languages pays that dubbing again for each one, which is why our review of HeyGen for a multilingual channel starts from the language count.

B-roll with action costs 230 credits per asset. Our math: a 12 minute video with one action clip every 30 seconds needs 24 assets, 5,520 credits of b-roll alone, almost the whole Pro month before the avatar says a word.

Then the rule that matters most for a channel: plan credits do not roll over. They reset every cycle, and on annual billing the whole year arrives at once. Credits bought separately last 12 months. When credits run out, creation stops until the plan renews. For a company that records 4 training modules a quarter, that is fine. For a channel with a calendar, a stopped month is a gap the algorithm notices.

On FalconVid the estimate in credits appears on screen before each video is generated, priced per finished video by quality mode: about 1,731 credits for 12 minutes in economy, 4,597 in balanced and 16,131 in premium, the same in every plan. Automatic recharge is there so the channel does not stop for lack of credit in the middle of the calendar.

Plan by plan: how many 12 minute videos fit

A 12 minute video is about 1,200 credits of AI avatar talking. Divide each plan by that number. The Starter month, 1,250 credits, makes 1 video of 12 minutes with 50 credits left, about 30 seconds. The Starter annual, 15,000 credits, makes 12 videos in the whole year, one a month. The Pro month, 6,000 credits, makes 5. The Pro annual, 72,000 credits, makes 60 a year.

If the video uses the lip sync features that cost double, the same 12 minutes become 2,400 credits. The Starter month no longer fits one, the Pro month fits 2, and the Pro annual fits 30 in a year.

Now the calendar of a modest channel: 3 videos a week, about 13 a month, 15,600 credits of avatar. The 12,000 credit tier at $176 a month makes 10. You need the 24,000 credit tier, $347 a month, and that buys only the presenter reading. Add 24 b-roll assets per video and each one costs 6,720 credits, so even the 48,000 tier at $676 makes 7.

Why 12 minutes? Mid-roll ads only run on videos of 8 minutes or more, and from 1 February 2027 new YouTube Partner Program entrants need 1,000 subscribers and 8,000 watch hours in 365 days. On FalconVid, the Starter with 15,000 credits a month makes about 8 finished 12 minute videos in economy or 3 in balanced, and the Pro with 30,000 makes 17 or 6. Credits are not the same currency across tools, so compare what each one delivers: Synthesia delivers minutes of presenter, FalconVid delivers the published video. What a face really costs across tools is in our breakdown of how much an AI avatar costs.

A nearly empty golden hourglass holding one short strip of film beside a complete golden reel with scenes, music and captions woven in, minutes of presenter against a finished video

Twelve minutes of talking head is the wrong unit for a channel

The deeper issue is the format, not the price. Synthesia bills the presenter on screen, and its model is the presenter on screen for the whole video. That fits a training module. On YouTube, 12 minutes of the same face in the same frame gives the eye nothing new, and retention drops in the first minutes.

Channels that use a face well use it like a host: the face opens the video, comes back at the turns of the story and closes it, and the rest is scenes, footage and graphics that show what the narration says. We measured how many seconds of AI avatar a long video really needs, and the answer is far below 720.

On FalconVid that is how the face is billed: per second on screen. Kling Avatar Std costs 32 credits per second, Kling Avatar Pro 64, HeyGen 80 and OmniHuman 1.5 112. A 12 minute economy video with 90 seconds of Kling Std face costs 1,731 plus 2,880, 4,611 credits, with research, script, narration, scenes, music, captions, thumbnail and SEO already inside. The Starter runs 3 of those a month and the Pro 6.

Stock faces are another detail. Synthesia offers more than 125 stock avatars on Starter and 180 on Pro, and any other account can pick the same ones. A channel needs a face that belongs to it, which on Synthesia means the 5 personal avatars of Pro. On FalconVid the presenter you create is locked in the channel DNA, so video 1 and video 200 show the same face and the same voice.

What Synthesia leaves on your desk

Synthesia delivers the presenter saying the text you wrote. It does not pick the topic, research it, write the script for retention, plan the scenes, generate the b-roll that shows each point, mix the music, burn in captions, design the thumbnail, write the title, description and tags, or upload on schedule. Each of those steps is another tool, another subscription or more of your evenings.

Put rough hours on it. Research and a script written to be spoken take 2 to 4 hours for 12 minutes. Planning and sourcing scenes and b-roll, 3 to 4. The edit that cuts the presenter into the story, 3 to 6. Captions, thumbnail and SEO, about 1. That is 9 to 15 hours per video, or 117 to 195 hours a month at 13 videos, on top of the subscription.

On FalconVid you approve the calendar and the AI specialists work in parallel: the researcher, the scriptwriter, the narrator, the editor and the sound designer at the same time. A video is ready in up to 30 minutes, and simultaneous generations go from 2 on Starter to 50 on Scale, so the month does not wait for one video to finish before the next one starts.

What FalconVid does for a channel with an AI avatar

FalconVid runs YouTube channels on autopilot: you approve a calendar of topics in your niche, and every video comes out finished and scheduled on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Rumble and Facebook, in 16:9 for long videos and 9:16 for Shorts.

The face is one specialist on that line, not the whole product. The AI influencer feature shows how you create a presenter and attach it to a channel, and the script marks the moments where the face appears, the hook, the turns and the verdict, while narration and scenes carry the rest. Every paid plan has the full platform. What grows is credits, channels and simultaneous generations, from 1 channel on Starter to 50 on Scale, and from Pro the Senior AI Analyst writes every 2 days with the next move for your account.

  • Narration in 63 languages with ultra realistic premium voices or your cloned voice.
  • AI avatar billed per second of face on screen, with Kling Avatar Std, Kling Avatar Pro, HeyGen and OmniHuman 1.5.
  • Three modes: economy with web stock media, balanced and premium with every scene generated for the script.
  • Karaoke captions in more than 15 styles, a 4K thumbnail and SEO on every video.
  • The Studio, to watch version 1 and shorten the intro, swap a scene or change the music, or open the timeline.
  • A project duplicated into another language pays only the difference.

Synthesia or FalconVid: who should pay for what

Synthesia wins where the presenter is the product: a training library, an onboarding module, a product announcement, a sales message, a compliance video translated for a global team. For that work the Starter at $19 with about 12 minutes a month, or the Pro at $89 with about 60, is a fair deal, and the polish of its AI avatars is real.

It stops fitting when the product is a channel that publishes long videos every week. There the bill runs per minute of presenter, credits reset every cycle and the rest of the video is still yours. FalconVid prices the finished video: the Starter with 15,000 credits, 1 channel and 2 simultaneous generations makes about 8 videos of 12 minutes in economy or 3 in balanced, and premium at 12 minutes does not fit in it. The Pro with 30,000 makes 17, 6 or 1 across 5 channels, the Business 54, 20 or 5 across 10, the Agency 109, 41 or 11 across 25, and the Scale 184, 69 or 19 across 50.

The ceiling of 1 to 5 avatar videos a month belongs to the minute of presenter and the manual workflow around it. With the face in the right seconds, the finished video as the unit and specialists working in parallel, that ceiling goes away, in as many channels as you want.

FAQ

Got questions? We've got answers.

How much does Synthesia cost in 2026?

On synthesia.io/pricing, read on 26 October 2026: Basic is free with a watermark and no download, Starter is $19 a month ($9 the first month, or $14 a month billed $168 yearly) with 1,250 credits a month, and Pro is $89 a month ($49 the first month, or $59 a month billed $708 yearly) with 6,000 credits a month. Enterprise is priced on request.

How many minutes of video do Synthesia credits buy?

About 100 credits per minute of finished video, so 1,250 credits are up to about 12 minutes and 6,000 up to about 60. Lip sync features use double, dubbing costs 80 credits per minute with lip sync or 40 without, and b-roll with action costs 230 credits per asset.

Do Synthesia credits roll over?

Plan credits do not. They reset every cycle, and the annual plan delivers the whole year at once. Credits bought separately last 12 months. When credits run out, creation stops until the plan renews.

Can I use Synthesia videos commercially on YouTube, and how long can a video be?

The pricing page read on 26 October 2026 does not say either one. Check the terms of service and ask support before building a monetized channel. On the free Basic plan videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded.

What is the best Synthesia alternative for a YouTube channel?

One that prices the finished video and puts the face only where it counts. FalconVid delivers the 12 minute video from research to upload for 1,731 credits in economy, 4,597 in balanced or 16,131 in premium, and an AI avatar adds credits per second of face, 32 per second with Kling Avatar Std.

Is Synthesia useful for a YouTube channel at all?

Yes, for videos where the presenter is the whole content: a short explainer, a channel trailer, a sponsor read or a message to your audience. That is where its polish pays off.

Do I need to appear on camera or edit on FalconVid?

No. You approve the calendar and the AI specialists research, write, narrate, place the avatar, edit, make the thumbnail and SEO and publish. The Studio is optional, for small changes like a shorter intro or one swapped scene.

Won't an AI avatar channel look fake?

A face in doses looks far more natural than 12 minutes of a talking head. On FalconVid the presenter appears at the hook, the turns and the verdict, the channel DNA keeps the same face and voice in every video, and the free plan lets you judge it yourself with no credit card.
